Conditions Treated from an Optometrist on Our Optometry Team
We at 4i's Optical offer eyecare to help you preserve your eye health. Our practice offers eye exams, vision correction, and eye disease management for residents of Alpine, TX. Here are a few of the conditions that we can help treat:
Myopia
Myopia is a common refractive error. It can be diagnosed in children. If you have myopia, you will have poor distance vision. It affects the way light enters the eye, which makes your distance vision blurry.
Myopia is diagnosed with an eye exam. It can be treated a few ways. An optometrist on our optometry team can prescribe eyeglasses or contacts. Lasik can also treat myopia. This is a laser surgery that permanently corrects your vision. Although we do not offer Lasik surgery, we can help recommend you to a surgeon that does.
Farsightedness
Farsightedness is the opposite of myopia. If you have farsightedness, you have clear distance vision, but can't see objects close up clearly. Like myopia, this is a refractive error.
Farsightedness occurs when your eye isn't shaped correctly, causing the light to be refracted off of the retina, rather than on it. This condition can be diagnosed with a standard eye exam. It is treated with glasses, contacts, or Lasik surgery.
Astigmatism
Astigmatism causes blurry vision regardless of the distance. It's caused by the cornea of the eye having an improper shape.
The symptoms of astigmatism include:
- Blurry vision
- Squinting
- Poor night vision
- Headaches
- Eye strain
Like other refractive disorders, it's diagnosed with an eye exam, and can be treated with glasses or contacts.
Presbyopia
Presbyopia is similar to farsightedness. However, it affects adults middle-aged and older. It occurs because the lens of the eye becomes worse over time, which prevents it from refracting light correctly.
The symptoms of presbyopia include:
- Difficulty seeing items close up
- Needing to hold things away from your face to see them clearly
- Headache
- Eye strain
Dry Eye
Nearly everyone will experience dry eye at some point in their lives. However, when dry eye is a constant issue, this is a concern. We provide treatment for dry eye.
Mild cases of dry eye can be treated with eyedrops. More severe cases might require diagnosis and treatment from an optometrist.
